Climate Change: 2022 was the fifth warmest year on record

As soon as summer comes, the heatwave starts bothering us across the Country. This life-threatening heatwave from south Asia is worsening the condition across the country. Keeping in view of the heatwave situation, IMD has announced a heatwave warning for the 5 states Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.

It is when the air temperature becomes too high and is very dangerous for humans. Due to heatwaves, people can faint, get dehydrated, and can also die. According to India's meteorological department, a heatwave requires that temperatures increase 5 to 6 degrees Celsius or more above the normal temperature. Heatwaves may stretch several days to several weeks.

Heatwave in India and its Effect

The weather forecasting agency has issued a heatwave scenario for regions like plains that have to face heatwave when temperatures are over 40°C and for coastal and hills when it is over 30°C.

Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha have recorded temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius.

Not only in these 5 states, but also hilly states like Uttarakhand, Jammu Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, the maximum temperature has crossed 40°C.

Due to the heatwave, Delhi is on alert and schools in Odisha has shut for five days. The heatwave has also led to a sharp rise in power demand in states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan has scheduled 4 hours of power cuts for factories.

Heatwave is a major problem for the population of India as very few people have an air conditioner while a large population lives without an AC. This has increased problems for elders' health.

This year North West India recorded the hottest March in 122 years with an average maximum temperature surpassing the previous record of 30.67 degrees Celsius in 2004.

Reason for Heatwave

Experts say that the reason for a heatwave is climate change and extreme pollution.

The Meteorological Department clearly said that the heatwave is wreaking havoc due to the strong condition of westerlies (Pachhua air) and the hot air coming from Rajasthan. And sadly there is no relief possible until the second or third of may.

Measure to Heatwave

  • Avoid going out of the house between 1-and 3 pm
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Watermelon is also best during summer.
