The Great Kohli a.k.a. King Kohli

In 2019, Virat Kohli was awarded the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the second year in a row, also named as the ICC ODI and Test Cricketer of 2018. He became the first cricketer to do so in the same calendar year.

The 33-year-old, has returned to form with this dominating performance in the initial game of the T20 World Cup. Without a doubt, King Kohli also enjoyed a great phase of his career as both captain and batsman over the years. His dominance with the willow has always been a topic of discussion among the cricket fraternity while his game reached new levels.

At that time, Twitter introduced the latest GOAT icon on its official handle and the ICC took the opportunity to add more fuel to the debate by asking the cricket fraternity and fans whether Kohli has called himself the 'Greatest of All Time' (GOAT) has been established.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan, who is a vocal figure on Twitter, referred to Kohli as the ‘GOAT’ (Greatest of All Time). When a user asked in the comments as to whether Vaughan was indicating that Kohli was better than the likes of Australian legend Sir Don Bradman, West Indies great Brian Lara and Tendulkar, Vaughan replied, “In One day cricket … YES …”

Who else has the GOAT icon on Twitter?

So, GOAT stands for Greatest of All Times. This abbreviation is generally used to signify the extraordinary talent individuals have in their fields. No points for guessing, football giants like Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi were the first ones to get the GOAT icon.

In addition, sports personalities like Indian Cricket Team's captain Rohit Sharma, Former India Captain MS Dhoni also have the GOAT icon.

While all above-mentioned cricketers have the GOAT icon, God of cricket doesn't. Yes, Sachin Tendulkar doesn't have the GOAT icon to his name.

Even, Virat Kohli himself has mentioned the greatness of Sachin Tendulkar, and no one can do what he did for the country.

Obviously, Sachin Tendulkar not having the GOAT icon is a point of conversation for a lot of fans on Twitter.

Not just Indian sports personality, Tennis stars like Rafael Nadal is part of this unique group.

Interestingly, even the Twitter Sports on Twitter as GOAT as their profile pictures.

But, the group doesn't end at the sports personalities, South Indian superstars like Pawan Kalyan, Prabhas, and Mahesh Babu at some point had the GOAT icon.

To make the entire GOAT icon fiasco more interesting, even Shehnaz Gill from Big Boss fame also had a GOAT icon with her name.

The logic of how, and why twitter assigns this icon to individuals is yet to be known. Although, this becomes a great opportunity for fans to make their favourite and most accomplished public figures trend on the micro-blogging site i.e. Twitter.
