Ground Report | New Delhi: Umar Khalid bail; Delhi's Karkardooma Court will issue its order on Monday on the bail declaration of former JNU student Umar Khalid. Umar Khalid is charged with criminal conspiracy in the case of the Delhi riots during February 2020, BBC reported.

On March 3, Karkardooma Court Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ), Amitabh Rawat, had reserved the decision to him. Umar Khalid's bail order is now likely to be announced on Monday. The court will issue its order today on the bail declaration of former JNU student Umar Khalid

One year of Umar Khalid’s custody

On September 14, 2020, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) alumnus Umar Khalid was arrested in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Umar Khalid has been given 10 days till September 24, 2020, police remand in Delhi violence case.

On October 22, 2020, Umar Khalid was sent to judicial custody by a Delhi court. He was produced in court after his 30-day police custody was over.

On November 20, 2020, A Delhi Court extended the judicial custody of JNU scholar Umar Khalid, till November 23.

On November 24, 2020, Umar Khalid told a Delhi court that his custody was extended “illegally” and “mechanically” in a case related to the northeast Delhi riots. Submissions were made before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dinesh Kumar, who has posted the matter for further hearing on November 27.

On December 02, 2020, A Delhi court extended Umar Khalid’s remand by 14 days, while denying him an opportunity to oppose the police’s plea seeking further remand.

On December 16, 2020, In the North East Delhi violence case, Delhi Court has extended the judicial custody of Umar Khalid by 10 days.

On December 26, 2020, The police filed a supplementary charge sheet against Umar Khalid in the case. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dinesh Kumar said sufficient material was available to take action against Khalid in a case related to the communal violence in the Khajuri Khas area in February last year.

On January 05, 2021, After a report claimed that Umar Khalid had allegedly ‘confessed that he had ‘conspired to fuel’ the Delhi riots, the JNU alumnus told the court about the “vicious media campaign” against him. An application has been filed, stating that it is affecting his right. For a free and fair trial.

On February 02, 2021:  A Delhi court extended Umar Khalid’s remand by 14 days while denying him an opportunity to oppose the police’s plea seeking further remand.

On February 16, 2021, A Delhi court extended Umar Khalid’s remand till March 01, The Delhi police have been investigating “a larger conspiracy” behind the New Delhi riots that broke out in February last year.

On March 01, 2021, Umar Khalid, taking cognizance of the ‘conspiracy’ chargesheet in the Delhi riots case, told the court that the woman and the man accused in FIR 59/2020 by the police were not facing a “media test” but a “curious one”.

On March 24, 2021, A Delhi court directed the Tihar Jail superintendent and police personnel to ensure the safety and security of Umar Khalid and other co-accused persons while sending them back to jail from the court including transit for the purpose of their physical products in the Delhi riots yesterday.

On April 15, 2021, A Delhi court granted bail to Umar Khalid in the Delhi riots case related to the Khajuri Khas FIR (FIR No. 101/2020), observing that it did not allow him to remain behind bars on the basis of sketch material against him. Noting that the investigation in the matter had been completed and a charge sheet had also been filed.

On April 23, 2021, A Delhi court sought a report from the Delhi Police, Special Cell, and Jail Superintendent for presenting “handcuffs in both hands from behind” to Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi on the ground that they are “high-risk prisoners”.

On July 15, 2021, A Delhi court will hear on July 27 a bail plea filed by Umar Khalid in the larger conspiracy to commit Delhi riots involving charges under the UAPA and the Indian Penal Code.

On July 27, 2021, A Delhi court adjourned for August 7 the hearing on the bail plea filed by Umar Khalid in the larger conspiracy to commit Delhi riots involving offences under the UAPA and the Indian Penal Code. (One year of Umar Khalid’s)

On August 18, 2021, Delhi Court will be hearing a bail application moved by Umar Khalid in connection with the Delhi Riots on August 23.

On August 23, 2021, Seeking bail in the larger conspiracy case of Delhi riots involving charges under UAPA, student activist Umar Khalid told a Delhi court that the entire chargesheet filed by Delhi Police is a fabricated one and the case against him is based on the video clips run by Republic TV and News 18 showing a truncated version of his speech.
