May is usually the hottest month in the state. Weather data from the last ten years shows temperatures rising up to 47-48 degrees in many cities. This year, the first half of May brought frequent storms, rain, and hail. The second half is expected to bring more intense heat.

The weather office expects the mercury to stay at or above 45 degrees in Gwalior, Chhatarpur, Narsinghpur, Bhind, Khargone, and other districts. Khajuraho and Naugaon may touch 48 degrees. Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Ujjain are likely to stay around 44-45 degrees.

Weather trend in April and May

In April, the state experienced unusual weather. The first week was hot, with temperatures 2-3 degrees above normal. Hot winds raised temperatures to 39-44 degrees in many places. Ratlam saw heatwave conditions early in the month.

The second week brought widespread rain, hail, and storms. Around 80% of the state received rain. Despite this, some areas continued to experience heat.

By the third week, night temperatures stayed around 25-27 degrees in major cities. Daytime temperatures hovered between 40-44 degrees across the state. Heatwaves continued in several districts.

Since April 25, Western Disturbance and cyclonic systems have caused storms and rain across Madhya Pradesh. The weather department has warned of continued extreme heat and unstable conditions for the coming days.
