The India Meteorological Department has forecast rain and hailstorms in the first week of May. A mix of heat and stormy weather is already being seen across the state. On Wednesday, many cities faced intense heat during the day, followed by strong winds and storms in the evening.

A BSNL tower around 100 feet tall collapsed in Piparia Guruva village in Betul district during a storm. Four bulls died in the incident, and two others were injured. There were no reports of human casualties. In Indore, strong winds uprooted a tree. Bhopal also saw cloudy skies after 4 PM.

Weather alerts have been issued for rain, thunder, and hail in several parts of the state from May 1 to May 4. Wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 kmph in areas like Satna, Rewa, Singrauli, Shahdol, and Dindori due to cyclonic activity.

Cities including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur are likely to experience thunderstorms and rain. The weather department has also warned of high temperatures above 45 degrees in Gwalior, Chhatarpur, Niwari, and parts of the Malwa-Nimar region. Khajuraho and Naugaon in Chhatarpur may see the mercury hit 48 degrees.

On Wednesday, temperatures were already high across the state. Khargone recorded 43.2°C, Khandwa 43.1°C, and Ratlam and Shajapur both reached 43°C. Bhopal and Indore touched 41.6°C, while Ujjain hit 42.5°C.

May is usually the hottest month in the state. Past records show the mercury often rises to 47–48°C. If the day is extremely hot, nights can also remain warm. Despite the high temperatures, brief spells of rain are common during this month.

April also saw fluctuating weather. The first week recorded higher-than-normal temperatures of 21–24°C in the mornings, and 39–44°C in places like Indore and Narmadapuram during the day. In the second week, around 80 percent of the state experienced storms and hail. The third week brought warm nights with minimum temperatures around 25–27°C, and daytime temperatures over 40°C. Storms and rain returned in the last week of April, starting around the 25th, due to western disturbances and cyclonic systems.
