Chief Minister Shivraj Singh on Monday inaugurated and inspected the newly built CM Rise School in Gulana village of Shajapur district. The newly inaugurated CM Rise School has been named after Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. The building spans over an area of 23 acres and has been built at a cost of approximately Rs. 25 Crore, according to the short film released by the government on the school.
School Chale Hum Abhiyan - 2023
The ceremonial ringing of the school bell also marked the launch of the state government’s “School Chale Hum Abhiyan- 2023”. Under the campaign, "Bhavishya Se Bhent" (Meet the Future) programmes will be held in all government schools from July 17 to 19. Students will be given guidance by eminent personalities from various fields. Several people's representatives, government officials, sportspersons, artists, industrialists etc. have been roped in for the task. Directions have been given for attendance of schools, and parent-teacher associations of the state to be connected virtually to this state-level programme.
The campaign follows the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) model originally conceptualised by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee 23 years ago. The name of the campaign is also derived from SSA’s iconic advertisement campaign ‘School Chale Hum’.
About CM Rise Schools
While addressing the students, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the CM Rise schools would be replete with modern facilities like smart classes, modern labs, libraries, and playgrounds. They will also be equipped with 'Atal Tinkering Laboratories' with the aim of enhancing innovation and creativity skills in children. According to MP Jansampark Vibhag, one CM rise school is being built in an area between 15 to 20 villages. Necessary bus transport arrangements would be made to make schools accessible for children. The education provided would be free of cost.
The Chief Minister informed that a total of 300 CM Rise schools are currently being constructed in the state. However, data as to when the projects are expected to be completed is not available. He further added that in the coming years, 9000 such schools will come up across MP that would ensure quality education for every child in the state.
Other announcements
While addressing the gatherings in Bhar and Barwani, the CM said that laptops will be distributed to 78 thousand meritorious students of the state, who have secured more than 75 per cent marks in class XIIth. He further announced that an amount of Rs. 4,500 would be deposited for bicycles in the bank accounts of children going to the school situated in another village.
State of Education in Madhya Pradesh
The campaign comes against the backdrop of dismal enrollment and attendance rates in schools in rural Madhya Pradesh. As per the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) released in January earlier this year, merely 56.8% of the children enrolled in primary and upper-primary schools in the rural areas of Madhya Pradesh attend their schools regularly. Madhya Pradesh was the second worst performer in this respect, second only to Bihar.
The report also flagged the decline in the learning levels of the children including reading and arithmetic skills, following the pandemic-induced lockdowns when schools remained shut for 2 years. The pandemic also saw an increased movement of students to privately paid tuition, further stressing an already dwindling rural income, reeling under the economic consequences of the pandemic. Further, the digital divide impact students in rural India, and from low-income families.
With the CM Rise schools, the state government aims to amend this very situation.
