"Twenty-seven burnt bodies were recovered from the building," Satpal Bhardwaj, in-charge of operations for the Delhi Fire Service said.

He told that about two dozen injured in the accident have been admitted to hospitals in Delhi where they are undergoing treatment. "There was no emergency exit from the building in case of fire and most of the people died of suffocation," Satpal Bhardwaj said.

According to the Times of India, there were around 200 people in the building when the fire broke out, so the death toll and the injured are expected to rise.
