Two strong weather systems have developed over Madhya Pradesh, causing widespread rainfall across the state. On Friday, several districts including Shahdol, Rajgarh, and Mauganj received heavy rain. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that this pattern will continue for at least five more days.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in seven districts today, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Khajuraho (Chhatarpur), Damoh, Katni, Shivpuri, and Panna. These areas are also likely to see lightning along with rainfall. The weather department has urged residents to remain cautious and stay indoors if possible.
Multiple regions have reported rainfall, with both heavy showers and light drizzles recorded in different parts of the state. The monsoon has now fully covered Madhya Pradesh. Moisture from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea is feeding the weather systems, increasing the chances of continued rain.
"Three major weather systems are currently active in the region," said Dr. Divya E. Surendran, senior meteorologist. "These include a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, a trough line from the Arabian Sea passing through Chhattisgarh, and an upper air circulation over eastern Madhya Pradesh. Their combined effect is expected to bring strong winds reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour, along with heavy rain."
When, where and how much will it rain?
On Saturday, June 28, heavy rain is expected in Bhind, Morena, Damoh, Jabalpur, Seoni, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, and Anuppur. In some places, rainfall may reach up to 4.5 inches within 24 hours. On Sunday, June 29, the effect of the rain system will move towards central and western Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain is likely in Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Datia, and Bhind. Moderate rain is expected in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur.
The weather will intensify on June 30, with very heavy rain likely in some areas. The department has issued an Orange Alert for Panna, Damoh, and Katni, which means very heavy rainfall is expected. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Sheopur, Morena, Ashoknagar, Satna, Jabalpur, and Umaria, warning of heavy rain in those districts as well.
The Meteorological Department has urged people to take precautions during this period. Avoid staying in open fields, near trees, or under electric poles during thunderstorms. Don’t drive through flooded roads or low-lying areas. Remove heavy objects from rooftops to avoid damage during strong winds. People are also advised to keep weather alert notifications turned on in their phones and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.
