Madhya Pradesh Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Likely in Bhopal, Indore

Monsoon rains have begun across Madhya Pradesh. On Thursday, several districts recorded continuous rainfall. Rivers and streams overflowed in Neemuch, sweeping away vehicles. Similar conditions are expected to continue on Friday.

The weather department has issued a heavy rain alert for Ashoknagar, Damoh, Panna, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, Guna, and Mauganj. These areas may receive between 2.5 to 4.5 inches of rain within 24 hours. Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur are also likely to experience thunderstorms and rain over the next four days.

"Three cyclonic circulations, a low-pressure area, and two trough lines are currently active. One trough is passing near Madhya Pradesh, leading to widespread rainfall," said Dr. Divya E. Surendran, senior meteorologist.

In Narmadapuram, rain started at midnight and continued until 6 a.m. on Friday. In Neemuch, two people on a bike were swept away while crossing a culvert but were rescued. Roads in Mandsaur were flooded with up to one and a half feet of water. The Rupa river overflowed, submerging roads in Kanjarda village.

Gwalior saw a tree fall on a moving car due to rain and wind. Bystanders rescued the trapped bank manager by cutting the tree. In Mhow, the Patalpani waterfall, which had dried up, began flowing again after the rainfall.

16 districts reported rain, with Ratlam reporting the highest amount—1.25 inches. Indore saw half an inch of rain. The rain caused a sharp drop in temperatures. In Indore, the day and night temperatures were almost the same—24.3 degrees at night and 25.6 degrees during the day. Ratlam and Ujjain also recorded just a 2-degree difference between day and night.

Temperatures remained below 30 degrees in Malajkhand, Guna, Raisen, Pachmarhi, and Dhar. Bhopal recorded 30 degrees, Indore 31.4, Gwalior 33.5, and Jabalpur 32.1 degrees Celsius. Tikamgarh recorded the highest temperature at 40.5 degrees.

The monsoon reached most parts of Madhya Pradesh by June 14, covering 54 districts in just three days. But it has not yet reached Bhind district. The weather office expects it to cover Bhind by Friday. Normally, the monsoon enters Madhya Pradesh around June 15. Last year, it arrived on June 21.
