Vaibhav Singhal, a 16-year-old son of a businessman in Greater Noida was abducted and killed by two of his ‘friends’, Maz Pathan (19) and Ayan Khan (15) over some photos the victim allegedly had in his possession.
The police have arrested the accused and recovered Vaibhav’s body from a canal after 13 days of search. The accused confessed to killing Vaibhav over some photos that he allegedly had in his possession.
The murder has sparked outrage in the community, leading to protests and demands for severe punishment for the culprits. Vaibhav’s family and relatives staged a protest at the local police station, alleging police inaction and negligence in finding Vaibhav.
Several traders in Bilaspur town also closed their shops in solidarity with the family. The police assured the family that they would find Vaibhav’s body and punish the culprits.
SM Khan, the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) for Greater Noida, stated that a tip warned the authorities about the involvement of the victim’s associates in his disappearance.
He declared, “Using manual surveillance and intelligence, a local police team identified the suspects as 19-year-old Maz Pathan, a resident of Bilaspur, and a minor boy. To protect his identity, we're withholding his name. We spotted them near Sakka village and asked them to stop, but they tried to run. Maz even fired at the police. So, in retaliation, our personnel shot him in the leg and took him into custody. We also nabbed the minor suspect.”
