Why Russia want to split Ukraine into two parts?

Ground Report | New Delhi: Russia split Ukraine two parts; The head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, has assured that  Russia is trying to divide Ukraine in two after its attempt to invade the entire country failed. "In fact, it is an attempt to create North and South Korea in Ukraine," he said in a statement, adding that Ukraine will soon launch a guerrilla war in the Russian-occupied territory.

While Putin has ordered a "special military operation" that includes the demilitarization and "dena%ification" of Ukraine, the West has called it a pretext for an unprovoked invasion.

The invasion devastated several Ukrainian cities, sparked a major humanitarian crisis and displaced some 10 million people.

The Russian Defense Ministry, quoted by the country's news agencies, said Russian-backed separatists now control 93% of the Lugansk region and 54% of Donetsk, the two regions that make up Donbas.

The leader of the self-proclaimed separatist republic of Lugansk, Leonid Paschenik, has said, for his part, that a referendum on the integration of this pro-Russian territory into Russia could be held in the "near future", according to the official TASS agency.

A UK intelligence report on Sunday suggested Russian troops may be moving east from Kharkiv and Mariupol to encircle Ukrainian forces fighting in that area.

The London analysis recalls that "the war front in northern Ukraine remains largely static, with Ukrainian counterattacks hampering Russian attempts to reorganize its forces."

The Ukrainian president also suggested that Western leaders were withholding supplies because they were afraid of Russia.

Kyiv also accused Moscow of destroying Ukraine's fuel and food storage centers.

After more than four weeks of conflict, Russia has failed to seize any major Ukrainian cities and has indicated it will focus on securing the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.

Russian-backed separatists have been fighting the Ukrainian army in Donbass for the past eight years.

The United Nations has confirmed 1,104 civilian deaths and 1,754 injuries in Ukraine but says the true figure is likely to be higher.

Ukraine said on Sunday that 139 children had been killed and more than 205 injured so far in the conflict. (Russia split Ukraine two parts)
