Who are Klitschko brothers going to fight for Ukraine

Ground Report | New Delhi: Who are Klitschko brothers; With Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the brothers and former world boxing champions, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko did not hesitate to step forward to go to war to defend their country.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko said he would take up arms alongside his brother and fellow world fighter Wladimir to fight a "bloody war" following Russia's invasion of their home country of Ukraine.

Vitali Klitschko said that Kyiv was under threat and that the main priority was to work with police and military forces to support critical infrastructure, including the delivery of electricity, gas and water for its citizens.

The two brothers are using their popularity to appeal to the world:

“I call on all international partners to look at this tragedy that is happening now in Ukraine and this senseless war that is not going to have winners, but losers. I just want to tell you that we must stand united against this aggression, against Russian aggression. Do not allow what is happening in Ukraine, do not allow what is happening in Europe and in the world. United we are strong, we support Ukraine, thank you.”

Wladimir posted on Twitter:

“It is love, love for my city, for my home, for my family, for my neighbors, for my daughter, what has brought me here today, what has led me to take this initiative and participate in this territorial defense ”.

“The world is watching how reckless and lethal imperialism is, not just for #Ukraine but for the entire world. Let history be a lesson not to repeat itself ”has been published today on his official Twitter profile.

Who are Klitschko brothers

Klitschko, 50, became mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in 2014, along with the head of the Kyiv City State Administration. That same year, Klitschko was a leading figure in protests against closer ties with Russia. And now, while Kyiv is under siege, along with other regions, Klitschko is back on the front lines defending Ukraine along with his brother, former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who is also a Hall of Famer.

Active boxers from Ukraine are also affected by the invasion. Vasiliy Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-division champion, fled Ukraine for Greece, according to Sports Illustrated.

Wladimir, 45, enlisted in Ukraine's reserve army in Kyiv earlier this month as the country prepared for an attack.

Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who defeated Anthony Joshua in September, was in London earlier this week for a meeting related to an upcoming boxing video game but returned to Ukraine on Thursday.

"Some wrote to me that I ran away, I didn't, I was at work, but I came back, I'm home," Usyk said in an Instagram video in comments translated from Russian. "Friends, we have to come together because it is a difficult time right now and I am very excited and concerned for my country and our people. Friends, we have to stop this war, altogether.

And then there's former 140-pound champion Viktor Postol, who fights Gary Antuanne Russell on Saturday in Las Vegas.

"The situation in Ukraine has escalated a lot in the last few days, it's hard not to think about it, but I try to focus on the fight and not the news," Postol said at a Showtime press conference to promote the fight on Thursday. "My family is there in the middle of everything. But I'm going to have my people there and my family is safe."
