Who is Jonathan Trott?

Born on April 22, 1981, in Cape Town, South Africa, Jonathan Trott is a former English cricketer. He made his debut for the England cricket team in the deciding fifth Test at the Oval against Australia in the 2009 Ashes series. In the first innings, Trott scored 41 and 119 in the second innings helping England to win the Ashes. Trott became the 18th Englishman to score a century on debut. The English batter marked his foot in test cricket, in the 2010 Ashes Series, through his unbeaten 168 at Melbourne. The innings helped England retain the Ashes in Australia.

Jonathan Trott was known for his solid technique, patience, and ability to play long innings. He was a valuable asset to the England cricket team during his career, particularly in the Test format and ODI Format. His domination in England cricket can be learnt from his career stats. 41-year-old Trott played 52 Tests and 68 ODIs for England. He has 3835 runs in Tests at an average of 44.08 and 2819 runs in ODIs at an average of 51.25 which makes him a great player.

An early retirement

The star of the 2009 and 2010 Ashes series for England, Jonathan Trott left the Ashes series 2013-14 after playing their first Brisbane test. Actually, Australia won the first Test by a huge margin of 381 runs. England's batting collapsed in that game but Jonathan Trott's failure attracted a lot of attention.

Trott was struggling a lot against Aussie pacer Johnson. He could just make 9 runs in 9 balls and get out on Johnson’s delivery. After his poor performance in the 1st Test match, Trott decided to take a break from cricket subject to long-term stress-related issues that gained so much attention. Unfortunately, in the 2015 England test tour of the West Indies, he didn't perform well as. He just scored an average of 12 runs in 3 tests resulting in the early retirement.

Head Coach

Jonathan Trott took the responsibility of Head Coach of Afghanistan Cricket in August 2022. Previously, in the T20 World Cup 2021, Trott was the batting consultant of Scotland. Trott has also worked with the England Men's Team, the England Lions and the Under-19 Team.
