Yasmin Porat, an Israeli settler, has made a startling claim in a recent interview with an Israeli radio station. Contrary to popular belief, she asserts that it was the Israeli forces, not Hamas, who were responsible for the death of Israeli civilians.
The attack was one of the opening attacks of the 2023 Israel–Hamas war. Around 70 Hamas militants stormed the kibbutz, killing at least 130 people, including women, children, and infants. The kibbutz is located in southern Israel, close to the Gaza Strip
During the interview on October 15, Porat described a scene of intense crossfire and tank shelling, stating, “They eliminated everyone, including the hostages.” "This 44-year-old mother of three also shared that Palestinians held her and several other civilians for several hours and treated them "humanely"."
The interview with the Haboker Hazeh (This Morning) radio programme on state broadcaster Kan quickly went viral on social media. Interestingly, the online edition of the Haboker Hazeh programme on October 15 did not include this interview, leading to speculation about possible editing.
In another interview with Israel’s Channel 12, Porat recounted her interaction with one of the Palestinian fighters who assured her in Hebrew that they did not intend to harm her but planned to take her to Gaza. This interview was later published on X.
Porat expressed that she felt calm during her captivity as the fighters did not threaten them with weapons and even provided them with water. However, the situation took a drastic turn when the Israeli forces arrived. The arrival was marked by heavy gunfire that injured both fighters and Israeli captives.
Who is Yasmin Porat
Yasmin Porat attended the Nova music festival with her boyfriend when Hamas attacked. They sought shelter in a safe house but Hamas attackers found them and took them hostage.
Israeli Forces, not Hamas, responsible for civilian deaths
In a comprehensive interview, Yasmin Porat, an Israeli settler, revealed that the Palestinian fighters who held her and other Israeli civilians captive had no intention of killing them. Instead, their plan was to “kidnap us to Gaza,” she said. She also mentioned that the police initiated a gun battle two hours into their captivity.
Mondoweiss published a story on October 22, suggesting, based on accounts in Israeli media, that Israeli forces caused many Israeli civilian and military deaths after the October 7 Palestinian offensive. They also shockingly revealed that Israeli forces killed some Israeli civilians, who remained alive for up to two days, along with the Palestinian fighters holding them.
An interview published in the Hebrew edition of Israel’s Haaretz newspaper on October 20 featured a man named Tuval from Kibbutz Be’eri.
Field commanders made difficult decisions, which included shelling houses with all occupants inside, to eliminate terrorists along with hostages. This action allowed the IDF to complete the takeover of the kibbutz. This event had a devastating aftermath: the conflict killed at least 112 Be’eri people, someone kidnapped others, and people were still discovering bodies 11 days after the massacre.
This account suggests that many Israeli captives were still alive on Monday, October 9, two days after the events of Saturday, October 7. "Mondoweiss notes that the clear military calculation made the decision to assault the kibbutz and everyone inside."
