Parag Desai, a senior executive of the Wagh Bakri Tea Group, tragically passed away after being attacked by stray dogs outside his residence. He was 49 years old.

The incident occurred on October 15, when Desai was reportedly trying to ward off street dogs that had approached him. He suffered severe injuries during the encounter. A security guard outside his residence alerted his family members about the incident, after which he was rushed to Shelby Hospital.

The company, in an Instagram post, shared, “With profound grief, we regret to inform the sad demise of our beloved Parag Desai".

A security guard near his home was the first to notice the incident and promptly alerted Desai’s family. He was immediately rushed to Shelby Hospital for emergency treatment.

After a day of careful observation at Shelby Hospital, they decided to transfer Desai to Zydus Hospital for a surgical procedure.

Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Desai tragically passed away due to a brain haemorrhage that occurred during treatment on Sunday.

Shaktisinh Gohil, the chief of Gujarat Congress and a member of the Rajya Sabha, expressed his condolences over Desai’s untimely demise in a post on social media.

He wrote, "Very sad news coming in. Parag Desai, Director and owner Wagh Bakri Tea passed away. He had a brain haemorrhage following a fall. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to the entire Wagh Bakri family across India.”

Who was Parag Desai?

Parag Desai was the Executive Director of the Wagh Bakri Tea Group. He was the son of Rasesh Desai, the Managing Director of the Wagh Bakri Tea Group.

Parag Desai had an MBA from Long Island University, USA. He headed the sales, marketing and export departments for the group. The Wagh Bakri website also describes Mr. Desai as "an expert tea taster and evaluator".

Wagh Bakri was started by Narandas Desai in 18921. Today, it has a turnover of ₹ 2,000 crore. The group has presence in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Western Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, and recently forayed into Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.

For over 30 years, Parag Desai had been helming the organization, overseeing the marketing, sales, and export departments. The company achieved a turnover exceeding INR 1,500 crore under his leadership. He stood not only as a key figure in the industry, but also as a renowned expert in tea tasting.

Furthermore, Parag Desai belonged to the Confederation of the Indian Industry (CII). The Wagh Bakri website says he obtained an MBA degree from Long Island University, USA, boosting his extensive knowledge in the world of tea. People will remember him for his contributions to the tea industry and his leadership in the Wagh Bakri Tea Group.
