The Aam Aadmi Party's AAP government made education and health its top priorities, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched several schemes to provide free medicines, diagnostics and various life-saving surgeries through a three-tier network of Mohalla Clinics, Polyclinics and Hospitals.
The Mohalla Clinics, which function as primary health care centers, do not charge fees and have been established in 158 locations throughout the city, each with a doctor, pharmacist and clinical assistant and are located in portable cabins or rented premises.
These clinics now provide primary health care to previously underserved communities. Diagnosis, medications and tests are free at Mohalla Clinics. But success brings with it some problems, such as the sheer number of patients who visit the clinic to take advantage of free treatment, numbers that the clinics probably never anticipated or were designed for. According to available figures, at least 200 to 300 people visit these clinics daily, located near low-income neighbourhoods. (Delhi free medical tests)
The Delhi government's scheme to provide free radiological and other high-end tests at private centers has exploded in popularity, with the number of people taking advantage of the benefits doubling in the last five years. There were 1.04 lakh people who underwent tests such as MRI and PET scan under the scheme in 2021, according to data shared by the Delhi government in response to an RTI request submitted by The Indian Express.
A notice for subcontracting laboratory services stated: “The authorities will decide the times for taking samples of blood, urine, feces, etc. from time to time to meet clinical requirements, service level specifications (waiting time) in the interest of patients Times may be modified (depending on OPD times) for all health facilities or for individual health facilities” . (Delhi free medical tests)
“All samples will be transported in accordance with the standard operating procedures approved by the authorities. Applicable national regulations for the transport of infectious and other diagnostic samples must be followed so that, in the event of an accident, courier personnel and the general public are not exposed to blood and body fluids,” the notice added.
Mohalla Clinics are neighborhood clinics established by the Delhi government in 158 locations across the city at extremely low cost, providing high-quality primary health care to previously underserved communities. Diagnosis, medications and tests are provided free of charge at Mohalla Clinics. Mohalla Clinics are set up in portable cabins or rented properties.
