Ground Report | New Delhi: Army soldier raped woman; A 22-year-old woman was detained at her university in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar on the pretext of being dropped off at home on March 3, locked in a room in Delhi for nearly 48 hours and allegedly gang-raped by a 24-year-old army Jawan and four of his friends.

According to the Times of India report, the woman, a first-year master's student, and the main accused, the son of the Pradhan people, come from the same village and may have known each other, police said.

Citing sources, ToI said the Jawan had joined the Army in 2020 and was currently stationed in Fatehgarh. “The woman, in her complaint, said that she was held captive for nearly 48 hours in Delhi, where the defendant and four of her friends raped her.

She somehow managed to escape and reach Khatauli on Saturday. We have registered an FIR against five people under IPC section 376-D (gang rape) following her complaint. The woman was sent for a medical examination and the report is still awaited,” said Dharmendra Kumar, SHO Khatauli.

In her complaint, the woman also alleged that when she resisted, she was beaten by the accused, locked in a room and sexually assaulted. “A police team has been formed to arrest all the accused. We are also conducting a detailed investigation and looking at all angles in this case," the SHO added.
