Who is Payton Gendron, killed 10 in Buffalo supermarket in New York?

Ten people have been killed in a shooting in New York, which is being investigated as a racially motivated hate crime. An 18-year-old boy Payton Gendron has been arrested in this shooting incident in Buffalo, New York. Although his name has not been made public by the police yet.

According to the Associated Press, the assailant picked up a rifle on Saturday and arrived at the Tops Friendly Market, dressed in military-style clothing, where he entered the parking lot and then the store and opened fire on supermarket staff and mostly black customers.

Authorities say the assailant was wearing a helmet with a camera mounted in which he was live-streaming the attack on AppTouch. The platform soon shut down its live stream.

According to police, he shot dead 11 blacks and two whites before surrendering to police.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gremiglia told the media that the assailant shot dead four people outside the store, three of whom died on the spot, according to AFP. He said the store's security guard was a retired Buffalo Police officer who fired shots at the assailant to stop him, but he was not harmed because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Police Commissioner Joseph Graemeglia said the assailant killed the guard and then entered the store and opened fire on others. He turned his shotgun on himself when apprehended by a police officer on the porch of the house where the shootings took place, police said.

Stephen Belongia, a special agent in charge of the FBI's Buffalo office, told the media that the shooting was being investigated as a hate crime. "We are investigating it as a hate crime and violent extremism based on racism," he said.

According to the AP, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said: "This is the worst nightmare for any community and we are still in trouble. The depth of the pain we feel is indescribable.

Earlier, in a press briefing, Erie County Sheriff John Garcia called it a hate crime. The suspected assailant was identified as Peyton Gendron, a resident of Conklin, New York, 320 kilometers from Buffalo.
