The sudden transfer of IPS officer Prabhakar Chowdhary has sparked heated discussions in the region. Just three hours after a lathi charge at Kanwaris, Prabhakar Chowdhary was ousted from his post as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) at Bareilly and transferred to 32nd PAC Corps Lucknow. Reports suggest that the incident that led to the transfer came to light on Sunday night around 10:00 when news of the lathi charge in Kanwaris surfaced. Some sources have cited the SSP's statement about the involvement of drunk and armed people among the Kanwariyas as a possible reason behind the action taken against him. However, others have linked the move to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's focus on maintaining law and order in the state, speculating that the transfer could be a response to recent events.

Who is IPS Prabhakar Chaudhary?

Prabhakar Chowdhary, an IPS officer belonging to the 2010 batch, has carved an impressive career trajectory within the realm of civil services. Hailing from Ambedkar Nagar district, he is the son of Paras Nath Chowdhary.

Prabhakar cleared the coveted Civil Services Examination in his very first attempt, securing a prestigious position in the Indian Police Service (IPS) in Uttar Pradesh. Over the years, he has served as SP in various districts including Deoria, Bijnor, Ballia, Bulandshahr and Kanpur Dehat.

His tenure as SSP in different districts has been noted for his shortness, with only six to seven months allotted to each location. However, he held the SSP position in Varanasi, Moradabad, Meerut and Agra before being transferred to Bareilly in March.

Known for his distinctive working style and recognized as a diligent officer, Prabhakar Chowdhary has earned a reputation for honesty and straightforwardness throughout his career. During his tenure as Meerut SSP in June 2021, he took a unique approach to assessing the city's police force by personally surveying the area and formulating a comprehensive plan based on his findings.

Prabhakar Chowdhary, known for his honesty and unique working style, has served in various districts during his illustrious career. He took charge as SSP in Varanasi, Moradabad, Meerut, and Agra, where his dedication and popularity among subordinates were evident. However, despite his commendable performance, his tenures in other districts were relatively short, typically lasting only six to seven months.

In Meerut, where he completed a one-year tenure as SSP, Prabhakar Chowdhary made headlines when he took a secret tour of the city in a manner reminiscent of a movie hero, meticulously assessing the state of affairs before embarking on his duties.

Furthermore, his simplicity and down-to-earth approach have earned him admiration from colleagues and subordinates alike. When he was transferred from Deoria to Kanpur Dehat, instead of opting for a government vehicle, he chose to travel by bus from Deoria.

Upon arriving at his new posting, he continued this unpretentious demeanor, reaching the SP bungalow by taking a simple tempo. The guards at the bungalow were taken aback to see the new SP carrying a bag on his back without any security or official vehicle.
