Uttar Pradesh elections Dhampur; In India's Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the Dhampur Assembly Constituency is one of 403 seats. It is one of Nagina's five assembly constituencies and is located in the Bijnor district (Lok Sabha constituency).

 The first election in this assembly constituency was held in 1957, following the enactment of the delimitation order (DPACO – 1956). The seat was granted the number 20. With a margin of 17864 votes, Ashok Kumar Rana of the Bharatiya Janata Party previously defeated Thakur Mool Chand Chauhan of the Samajwadi Party (later changed the party to BSP) to win the seat in 2017. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Girish Chandra defeated Bharatiya Janata Party contender Dr. Yashwant Singh from Nagina Lok Sabha (MP) Seat by a margin of 166832 votes.

Candidate Ashok Kumar Rana 

60 years old Ashok Kumar Rana was born in 1961 at That Jat in Uttar Pradesh. He has qualified his higher secondary school. He will be representing Bhartiya Janta party in the upcoming elections. He is a veteran politician who is a businessman and agriculturist by profession. He represents the Dhampur assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh's Seventeenth Legislative Assembly. He served in 10th, 15th, and 17th Legislative Assemblies of Uttar Pradesh. He has been a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party and has represented the Dhampur (Assembly constituency) since 2017. According to an affidavit signed by Ashok Kumar Rana, there are eight criminal charges pending against him.

Candidate Naimul Hasan

50 years old Naimul Hasan was born on August 10, 1971 in Seohara, Uttar Pradesh. He is politically associated with Samajwadi party. He is the sitting MLA of Noorpur district.  He began his career as a student politician in 2000, when he was elected as the President of students union in Jamia Millia Delhi. He was supposed to contest in 2012 assembly elections as a candidate of Samajwadi Party but was replaced. But later he was given a ministerial position. He was handed a ticket by the Samajwadi Party from the Noorpur constituency in the 2017 assembly elections. Lokendra Chauhan defeated him by more than 12,000 votes in that election. Lokendra Singh Chauhan of the BJP received 79,000 votes, while Naim Ul Hasan of the SP received 66,436 votes. In the 2018 bypoll election however to great opposition from the people, he again contested from Noorpur district.  And by a margin of 6,000 votes, he defeated BJP candidate Avani Singh in this election.

Candidate Moolchand Chauhan 

70 years old Thakur Moolchand Chauhan was born on December 20, 1951. He previously was associated with Samajwadi Party which he left in 2017 and joined Bahujan Samaj party. He holds an undergraduate degree in economics. He was born in district Bijnor Uttar Pradesh. He formerly was an agriculturist by profession. Thakur Mool Chand Chauhan has been a member of the Legislative Assembly for three terms. He was a member of the Samajwadi Party and represented the Dhampur constituency throughout his three terms. Chauhan also served in the Uttar Pradesh government as a minister. He served as a minister in both 2003 and 2012 under  Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh Yadav governments respectively. 

Candidate Hussain Ahmed Ansari

Hussain Ahmed Ansari is a candidate who is running from Dhampur constituency. He is a Congress candidate. In the past he has been in the news : when actress Nagma lashed out at him during a campaign where he allegedly caressed her while putting a garland on her. Hussain is 64 years old. 

Dhampur constituency has minority issues. In the past politician Moolchand Thakur filed a memorandum in the court : alleging that minority community voters were being  removed from the list. Besides the issues of minorities, the constituency is also underdeveloped. It has an electricity and water supply crisis. It is also facing unemployment and farming issues. 

With  BJP winning  four times and Samajwadi party winning three times since 1977 elections, the situation is a bit complex here. But Bhartiya Janta party has an obvious upper hand here. It is a 57:43 percent situation here. 

The election will take place on Monday February 14 and votes will be counted on 10th March Thursday 2022.
