UP Police Constable Paper Leak

The UP Police Constable Exam 2024 was held on February 17 and 18, 2024, to fill 60,244 vacancies for male and female police constables. Around 48 lakh candidates from UP appeared for the exam at 2,385 centres across the state.

However, soon after the exam, several posts emerged on social media platforms like Telegram, X (former Twitter), YouTube etc., alleging that the question papers were leaked and shared online. Some users also claimed and shared screenshots of purported WhatsApp conversations discussing the leaked papers. Several YouTube videos also supported the paper leak claims and spread misinformation.

The UPPRPB, through its official social media channels, dismissed the paper leak claims as false and baseless. It said that preliminary investigations revealed that miscreants had used Telegram’s edit feature to cheat and create confusion about the paper leak. It also said that the board and the UP Police were monitoring these incidents and conducting a thorough investigation into their sources.

Paper error, action, transparency, investigation

“Initial investigations have found that miscreants are using Telegram's edit feature to cheat and spread confusion about a paper leak on social media. The board and UP Police are monitoring these incidents and conducting a thorough investigation into their sources. The examination is continuing safely and smoothly," the board said.

The board also acknowledged a printing error in some pages of the question paper at a centre in Varanasi and assured prompt action. It urged the candidates to submit their representations regarding the matter. It also emphasized its commitment to uphold transparency and integrity in all examinations and vowed to diligently investigate the unverified news trending on social media with the assistance of UP Police.

Despite the assurances from the authorities, expressions of dismay flooded social media, with some users questioning the UP government’s competence in conducting secure exams, citing past leaks in RO and ARO exams. “Is the UP government incapable of conducting leak-proof exams? It happened with RO and ARO, and now with UPP too! Rigorous investigation is imperative,” a user on X (former Twitter) said.

287 people arrested

Meanwhile, the UP Police has arrested or detained 287 people in the last three days for cheating or planning to cheat in the police constable exam. The arrests were made between February 15 and February 18, up to 6 PM, as part of a coordinated effort by district police and the Special Task Force (STF) to prevent malpractice. The arrested or detained persons include examinees, solvers, solver gang members, and individuals suspected of involvement in paper leaks.

On Sunday alone, 93 people were apprehended to safeguard the exam’s integrity. The arrests were made from various regions, including Firozabad, Prayagraj, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Varanasi, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Siddharthnagar. Some of the arrested persons were from Bihar and were caught impersonating other candidates or solving papers for them.

The UP Police has advised the candidates to only trust the official notifications from the UPPRPB regarding the exam and not to believe or spread unverified claims on social media platforms. It has also said that any updates regarding the constable exam will be duly notified by the UPPRPB on its official website.
