This Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it would evacuate for security reasons the staff of its embassy and consulates general in Ukraine.

"The Russian government has decided, in order to guarantee their lives and safety, to evacuate personnel from its missions in Ukraine, which will be effective as soon as possible," Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

He argued that since 2014 the headquarters of the Russian diplomatic missions in Ukraine have suffered "numerous attacks" without the Ukrainian authorities reacting to these events.

The announcement of the beginning of the evacuation of Russian diplomatic personnel from Ukraine came shortly after the Kiev government urged Ukrainian citizens to immediately leave Russia's territory.

"In connection with the intensification of Russian aggression against Ukraine (...), the Foreign Ministry recommends that Ukrainian citizens refrain from traveling to the Russian Federation and those who are in this country to leave its territory immediately," Ukrainian diplomacy said in a statement.

Kiev considers that in the current circumstance of military tensions with Russia, its ability to provide consular assistance in that country to the Ukrainians may be limited.

"We emphasize that ignoring these recommendations will significantly complicate the adequate protection of Ukrainian citizens in the Russian Federation," Foreign Affairs insisted in its travel advisory.
