“A very special welcome,” PM Modi said on posting a video of his arrival at the airport. He was extended an invitation by President of UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi H H Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

During his approximately 21-hour stay in Dubai, the Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in seven bilateral meetings, deliver four speeches, and take part in two special climate events, according to officials.

“COP28 will provide an opportunity to review progress made under the Paris Agreement and outline future climate action. At the Voice of Global South Summit convened by India, the Global South emphasized the need for climate action based on principles of equity, climate justice, and common but differentiated responsibilities, as well as a greater focus on adaptation,” Modi said in a statement on Thursday before his visit to Dubai.

World Climate Action Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a busy schedule for the World Climate Action Summit in Dubai. He will be in the city for approximately 21 hours, during which he will participate in two special climate events. PM Modi is also slated to deliver four speeches and hold seven bilateral meetings.

The summit, part of COP28, will see several world leaders discussing strategies to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse emissions. PM Modi is also scheduled to participate in three other high-level side events.

During a press briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra shared that PM Modi will address the opening session of the World Climate Action Summit and attend an event related to Green Credits.

In addition to his address at COP28, PM Modi will participate in three high-level side events, two of which are co-hosted by India. The first event, co-hosted by India and the UAE, is the launch of the Green Credits Initiative. This initiative, along with the Ecomark Scheme, encourages environmentally friendly practices and reflects the ideas of the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) concept launched by PM Modi in 2021.

PM Modi will also attend a high-level event co-hosted by India and Sweden for the launch of Lead IT 2.0, a leadership group for industry transition. This initiative, launched by India and Sweden in 2019 at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, aims to accelerate the industry transition to net zero emissions.
