Heavy rain has been lashing Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Ujjain, Ratlam, and Neemuch since Wednesday morning. Waterlogging has been reported in several areas of Bhopal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for 18 districts, while eight districts are expected to receive up to eight inches of rain in 24 hours.
According to the IMD, a strong monsoon system is active in Madhya Pradesh and will continue for the next four days. Senior meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran said, “A monsoon trough is currently passing over MP. Along with that, a secondary trough and a low-pressure area are also active. These conditions are causing heavy rainfall and are expected to strengthen in the coming days.”
She added that July 5 is likely to see the most intense rainfall. “We have issued alerts for very heavy or heavy rain in 48 districts for July 5. People should stay alert and prepared,” she said.
