During the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed India’s dedication to the UN Framework for Climate Change and offered to host the COP33 Summit in India in 2028. PM Modi Friday said India contributes less than 4 per cent to global carbon emissions.

He stated, “India is committed to the UN Framework for Climate Change process. That is why, from this stage, I propose to host COP33 Summit in India in 2028.” The COP28, which is the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, is currently underway in Dubai, UAE, from November 30 to December 12.

PM Modi affirmed India’s commitment to significantly expand its renewable energy capacity. While the global objective does not mandate each nation to triple its renewables, India is among the ten nations aiming to do so by 2030. This ambition, highlighted by the energy think tank Ember, will necessitate an investment of $293 billion, with an additional $101 billion required to align with the IEA’s net zero roadmap.

PM Modi told world leaders that with collective efforts, the belief has increased that for the welfare of the world, it is necessary to protect everyone's interests. "You have continuously supported the issues of climate justice, climate finance and green credit raised by me."

In a special recognition by the UAE, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded the honor of addressing the Ceremonial Opening at the COP28 summit, which will deliberate on climate change issues in the upcoming days.

• "Our achievements in different sectors like renewable energy, energy efficiency, afforestation, energy conservation, Mission LiFE are testament to the commitment of our people towards mother Earth," he said.
