There is news floating on the internet, that Hollywood is set to produce a film on the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
According to Round Table India, a casting company contacted them as they are looking for actors to play Dr. Ambedkar.
The post read,
“We are casting an upcoming independent film based on a book, and we are seeking to cast someone to play the esteemed Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. We were hoping to have a conversation with you about the role, how to authentically cast it, and perhaps how to explore the Indian community more deeply.”

The film is being directed by Ava DuVernay, who has previously directed Selma, and 13th. One of my favorite works of hers is the Netflix limited series named: ‘When They See Us’. The limited series is based on events of the 1989 Central Park jogger case and explores the lives of falsely accused and persecuted Black and Latino male suspects.
The director has made movies, documentaries, and more about the lives of marginalized communities, particularly black communities. She is an acclaimed director and the first to do a lot of things for the black community.
Hollywood & Ambedkar
Hollywood has been criticized for sidelining the role of Dr. Ambedkar in Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi, 1982.
The Oscar-winning depicted the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his role in India’s freedom struggle.
As per many historians, Ambedkar was Gandhi’s biggest adversary. And, presenting Gandhi’s story without a mention of him is like presenting false history, according to many.
The film went on big several accolades, including Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Although, maybe, this movie would be Hollywood’s attempt to come clean. There have been several Indian feature films on the lives of Dr. Ambedkar.
One of the most popular ones is the Mammootty starrer, ‘Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’, directed by Jabbar Patel in 2000.
The actor was praised for his remarkable performance in the film.
