The training is free for the participants. This year around 150 volunteers have registered for the Chattarpur training camp. The platoon commander of the Home Guard office, Amit Dubey along with the Disaster Management coordinator Rishi Garwhal, provided their suggestions to the volunteers. Further, they advised the volunteers to always be prepared in case of an adversary and should be ready to reach out and help as much as people in need around them.

About Aapda Mitra

The National Disaster Management Authority of India launched a scheme called the  Aapda Mitra back in 2016. The scheme is aimed at training community volunteers in case a disaster, such as a flash flood, occurs in their area. The volunteers are provided with the skills required for basic relief and rescue operations in their community during the times of need. Around 5186 community volunteers have been trained in 23 project states till now.

The NDMA aims at providing training to around 100,000 volunteers in 350 districts in India. Especially in the most vulnerable/disaster-prone areas of earthquakes, floods, cyclones, and landslides. Further, it wants to promote the culture of volunteerism in India that could prove to be beneficial to the communities.

Certain states have reported that the services provided by these volunteers during major floods and cyclones have helped save stranded people in times of need. Kolhapur-floods, Kerala-floods, Assam- floods, Tripura-floods, Sikkim-floods and cyclone Fani are certain disasters that saw the bravery of these Aapda mites volunteers.
