Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a Lady SPO and terminated her from the service for glorifying militancy and obstructing government officials in the discharge of their duty.

In the viral video on social media, a woman identified as 27-year-old Saima Akhter. A resident of Frisal in Kulgam, Akhter can be heard asking security forces why they search her house regularly.

The women heard saying “If anything happens to my mother, you will have to face the consequences. Why do you come here again and again? Nobody is here. Go to the houses where militants are hiding, there is no one in this house. My mother is ill you didn’t even allow us to have sehri,”.

On 14th of April 2021, on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in Karewa Mohallah of village Frisal, a search operation was launched by the security forces in the area, the police statement reads.

During the search operation, the search party was obstructed to by a lady identified as Saima Akther daughter of Ghulam Nabi Rah, resident of Frisal. The lady resisted the search party & turned violent and uttered statements glorifying violent actions of militants.

According to the police "she captured a video through her personal phone and uploaded it on social media platforms for dissemination with the intent of disrupting the search operation.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Lady has been arrested and subsequently terminated from service.

Regarding the incident, a case FIR No 19/2021 U/S 353 IPC, 13 ULA(P) Act stands registered in Police Station Yaripora and investigation of case is in progress.

However hours after woman SPO Saima Akhter was arrested and slapped with UAPA besides terminated from services, PDP president and former Chief Minister of erstwhile state Mehbooba Mufti termed police as “cruel”.

“Saima Akhter from Kulgam has been slapped with UAPA for raising legitimate questions about searching her home repeatedly without any reasons. Saima’s ailing mother understandably exacerbated her worries. When it comes to cruelty even women arent spared in Naya Kashmir,” she tweeted.
