Who is Amir Subhani new Chief Secretary of Bihar

Ground Report | New Delhi: Amir Subhani, a 1987 batch IAS topper, took over as the new Chief Secretary of Bihar on Friday. While wishing the people of the state a Happy New Year on the first day of assuming office, he appealed to the people to behave according to the Covid guidelines.

Subhani is the only Muslim civil servant in the entire country who holds the post of Chief Secretary of a state. At the same time, there is no Muslim Chief Minister in any state of the entire country.

This appointment is also being seen as a message in the coalition government of JDU and BJP. Subhani, who belongs to the Siwan district, is known as an honest administrator and is also said to be close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“Aamir Subhani ji is one of the finest officers in the state and has seniority and experience. However, it is a great decision of our leader Nitish Kumar ji and also symbolic,” K.C. Tyagi, JD(U) general secretary told The Print.

"This is a clear message to all that Nitish Kumar will never discriminate on the basis of religion and caste." Tyagi said Subhani is "Bihar's first Muslim chief secretary and the only one in any NDA-ruled state".

“So, as such, this is another indication about Nitish Kumar's firm grip on the part of governance. He always ensured that his government would never be divided on the basis of caste and religion.

According to a senior state official, Nitish Kumar has always been in favor of ensuring that there is a Muslim civil servant in an important post. “Before Aamir Subhani, the chief minister had Afzal Amanullah as the principal secretary of the home department. Furthermore, Subhani is the least controversial officer. There has never been any allegation of corruption or any controversy against him.

Subhani, a widower, has a keen interest in Urdu poetry, the official said. His wife, who was a doctor, died of the disease about five years ago. “It is a clear message to all that Nitish Kumar never discriminates on the basis of religion and caste. Subhani is the first Muslim chief secretary of Bihar and the only one in any NDA ruled state.”

Three-time BJP MP and party president of Bihar, Sanjay Jaiswal, when asked a question related to Subhani's appointment, said that the appointment of the Chief Secretary is a "prerogative" of the Chief Minister and Amir Subhani is senior and he is known as an honest officer.
