Ground Report | New Delhi: Which state police is best in India; People from Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh have the least trust in the Police, according to a survey by independent think-tank India Police Foundation (IPF).

According to the IPF Smart Policing Index 2021, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Kerala and Sikkim have the best policing. The bottom five states in this list are Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Punjab.
For the survey, the survey looked at police sensitivity, fair, impartial and lawful policing, police accountability, integrity, strict and good behaviour, accessibility, accountability, supportive and friendly policing, integrity and corruption free services.
The survey is an attempt to assess the performance of various states on the Smart Policing initiative of the Prime Minister. While it is heartening to see 69 per cent of the country’s people satisfied with the police system, we are hopeful that wherever there are lapses, this survey will inspire states to do better.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana topped the index with smart cores of 8.11 and 8.10 respectively. It was followed by Assam (7.89), Kerala (7.53), Sikkim (7.18), Mizoram (7.14), Gujarat (7.04), Odisha (6.94), Himachal Pradesh (6.91) and Puducherry (6.91). Delhi ranks twelfth on the list with a score of 6.85, followed by Tamil Nadu (6.73), Uttarakhand (6.69), West Bengal (6.66), Meghalaya (6.60), Haryana (6.39), Tripura (6.33), Jammu and Kashmir . 6.26), Maharashtra (6.25), Rajasthan (6.17), Madhya Pradesh (6.15), Nagaland (6.11), Punjab (6.07) and Jharkhand (6.07). Bihar got 5.98 out of 10 in the category ‘Public trust in police’, 4.97 in ‘Integrity and corruption free service’ category, 5.81 in technology, 5.84 in ‘Police response’ category and 5.75 marks in ‘Police sensitivity’. Which is the lowest score obtained by a state in these five categories.
