What lead BJP to victory in Madhya Pradesh?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised for a sweeping victory in Madhya Pradesh, leading in over 150 seats, while the Congress trails with approximately 65 seats. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has attributed this success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s influential campaign and the effective implementation of the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’.

This welfare scheme, initiated on March 5, 2023, provides a monthly stipend of Rs 1,250 to women from economically disadvantaged families. Despite the Congress’s campaign promises of 11 guarantees, the electorate favored the BJP’s existing social welfare programs, resulting in limited interest in the Congress’s offerings.

This remarkable turnaround signifies a gain of 51 seats for the BJP, while the Congress faces a loss of 47 seats compared to the 2018 election results. The outcome marks a significant consolidation of power for the BJP in a state it has controlled since 2003.

The Congress party’s campaign in Madhya Pradesh was built around its pledge of 11 guarantees, which included a variety of free offerings. Despite these promises, the BJP’s existing social schemes had already garnered significant support among the populace, leaving little room for the Congress guarantees to make an impact.

Ladli Behna Yojana

The ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ stood out as a particularly influential welfare program for the BJP, gaining immense popularity among the state’s women. This scheme ensures a monthly transfer of Rs 1250 to eligible women from impoverished families.

One of the pivotal factors that led to BJP’s landslide win was the ‘Ladli Behna’ scheme, a welfare initiative aimed at empowering women in the state. The scheme resonated with the electorate, contributing significantly to the party’s success.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been vocal about the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’s’ pivotal role in the BJP’s decisive victory. In response to the early trends, Chouhan expressed his confidence in the BJP securing a comfortable majority and attributed the party’s remarkable performance to the support of the ‘Ladli Behnas’.

The Madhya Pradesh Ladli Behna Scheme is a comprehensive welfare program designed to support women across the state, transcending barriers of caste and religion. Eligible women, aged between 21 to 60 years and with a family income below Rs 2.50 lakh per annum, are entitled to receive a monthly financial aid of Rs 1,250. In a significant move, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced an increase in this aid to Rs 3,000, with subsequent hikes of Rs 250, marking it as a generous gesture for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Effective governance and leadership

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s leadership and the BJP’s governance model have been well-received by the people of Madhya Pradesh. The administration’s focus on development and infrastructure projects has garnered widespread support.

The BJP’s organizational strength and the unity among its leaders played a crucial role in the election. The party’s disciplined campaign strategy and its ability to mobilize workers at the grassroots level ensured a cohesive and targeted approach.
