What is happening in Tripura

Ground Report | New Delhi: What is happening in Tripura; In the past few days, there have been reports of mosques and Muslim properties being targeted by the Hindutva mob in Tripura, which borders Bangladesh. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party government has claimed that no major incidents of law-breaking have taken place except for minor incidents of violence.

A senior Tripura police officer said that the situation was calm now and security had been provided to about 150 mosques in the state. He confirmed the vandalism near a mosque and said the incident was being investigated, several people had been arrested and identification was continuing from CCTV footage, Indian Express reported.

In a memorandum submitted to the office of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Director General of Police VS Yadav on Friday, Jamiat Ulema (Hind) had asked the state government to act on the alleged attacks on mosques and Muslim-dominated areas. Hindustan Times.

A day earlier, over 15 people, including three police personnel, were injured when activists of Hindutva organisations, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Hindu Jagran Manch clashed with the police during a rally in Gomti district against the recent communal violence in Bangladesh.

Ahead of the rally, Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure was imposed in the area, which prohibits gatherings of five or more people. The organizers of the rally claimed they had permission but were stopped by the police when they tried to enter some minority-dominated areas.

Meanwhile, rumours of a statue being smashed spread, though police later denied it. However, during this time many mosques were attacked and vandalized.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, a nationwide organization of Muslims, says 12 mosques were attacked in Tripura, saffron flags were planted on some mosques and some mosques were set on fire. BJP state spokesperson Navindo Bhattacharya said the BJP did not support such incidents.

Communal Riots in India

In response to this, there were protests in India and around the globe. Members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Saturday staged protests by chanting the ‘Hare Krishna’ mantra at their international headquarters in West Bengal’s Mayapur and 149 temples across the globe against the recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

The reason for the protests by the ISKCON was the fact that an ISKCON center in Noakhali District was vandalized, and several people were killed in the violence that erupted over alleged blasphemy at a marquee in Comilla.

Three houses and a few shops, reportedly owned by members of the minority community, were also ransacked in nearby Rowa Bazar, Chakraborty said. Stone pelting was going on and damage was done to a door of a mosque in the Chamtilla area during the rally. Security forces rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, the SP said.

Apart from the SP, Panisagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Soubhik Dey said that about 3,500 people had taken part in the rally, which was held to protest the communal violence in Bangladesh that broke out earlier this month.

BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said he is not aware of the incident but appropriate actions should be initiated by the police if anything like this had happened.

Collusion of opposition parties

Surprisingly, since the national media is ignoring what is happening in Tripura and in some cases misreporting, local activists alleged that civil society and non-BJP parties which are otherwise very active, are Quiet on the ongoing violence. Nurul Islam alleged that the Communist Party of India, Marxist (CPM) and Congress party workers also joined the mob in attacking Muslims.

"They are doing this to gain the favor of the majority for electoral purposes," he remarked. Opposition parties are also giving speeches on Bangladesh violence which in turn is fueling anti-Muslim violence in the state. Shaheen termed it "competitive hate mongers" among all parties, where they are competing to portray themselves as more anti-Muslim than others as Muslims constitute only eight percent in the state and carry no relevant electoral weight. Huh. He said the opposition is afraid to speak against Muslims by risking their political career.

“The CPI(M) has a lot of influence in the state. They lost just one election, however, the entire leadership and cadre of CPM are completely silent,” Nadeem Khan said. (What is happening in Tripura)

Dr. Muhammad Manzoor Alam, General Secretary, All India Milli Council said, “Protecting minorities, protecting their places of worship and homes is the primary responsibility of the elected government, which I think the BJP government has failed from the beginning. "

Dr. Manzoor Alam said that Muslims have been attacked in Tripura for the last several days, but unfortunately no special action has been taken by the state and central government in this regard so far. The government must fulfill its responsibility to make the country's environment peaceful, protect minorities and stop the ongoing attacks on them, and punish those involved in such attacks severely.
