Western disturbance brings rain and snow to north India

The Meteorological Department has reported that the Western Disturbance is persistently active as a trough in the mid-level westerly winds. Another Western Disturbance is also ongoing in the form of a mid-level westerly wind trough.

Due to these weather conditions, light to moderate rain is forecasted in Uttarakhand and snowfall in high altitude areas on November 9 and 10. Heavy rain and snowfall are expected in the high hills of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad today and tomorrow. Rainfall between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is anticipated in these parts of North India.

Light rain is expected in some parts of Haryana and Chandigarh on November 9 and 10, and in Punjab and Western Rajasthan today. Light rain is also expected in Delhi on November 10, which could provide some relief from pollution. Rainfall in these regions may range from 0.1 mm to 15.5 mm.

Experts suggest that if there is sufficient rain, it could alleviate pollution in North India, but this is not yet certain.

The Meteorological Department reports that a low-pressure area has formed over the East Central Arabian Sea today, i.e., on November 9. A cyclonic circulation continues over the Comorin area at lower levels.

In light of the above low pressure and cyclonic circulation, light to moderate rains and heavy rains in some parts are expected over the southern peninsula of India during the next two days. Rainfall between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected in some parts of this region.

Today, light to moderate rain is expected in Konkan and Goa and Central Maharashtra. Rainfall between 0.1 mm to 15.5 mm is expected in these parts.

Heavy rainfall is expected in different parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu today. Rainfall between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected in these two states.

Over the next seven days, light to moderate rain is expected in some areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with heavy rain in some parts.

According to the Meteorological Department, stormy winds moving at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour, accompanied by rain and lightning, are expected in different parts of Kerala and Mahe today.

Thunderstorms and lightning are expected today in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

In view of the stormy winds, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning to fishermen not to venture into these areas for fishing or any business-related work.

Yesterday, on November 8, between 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, there were thundershowers or thunderstorms in many parts of Kerala and Mahe, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Karaikal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand.

Clouds or thunderstorms were observed yesterday in isolated parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Odisha, West Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Marathwada, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.

Heavy rainfall was recorded yesterday in isolated parts of Kerala and Madhya Maharashtra.
