Indore Metro is all set to launch on May 31. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the service virtually from Bhopal. The city’s first metro stretch, between Gandhi Nagar and Super Corridor Station No. 3, will be open to the public the same day. For the first week, travel will be completely free.
The metro will run every 30 minutes from both ends—Gandhi Nagar and Station No. 3—between 8 am and 8 pm. Each ride will take around 15 minutes, with the train stopping for 2 minutes at each of the five stations. A total of 95 trips will be made daily using four to five trains, each with three stainless steel coaches.
Passengers will enter the station through stairs or escalators. Manual ticket counters will be available at the entry point. Ticket vending machines will be added later. After buying a ticket, passengers must go through a security check using metal detectors and X-ray baggage scanners, similar to airport systems.
Platforms can be accessed through stairs and escalators. Once on the platform, passengers will wait for the metro, which will arrive every half hour. After reaching their destination, passengers can exit via the stairs.
The coaches are designed for comfort and capacity. Each coach has seats for more than 45 passengers and space for around 300 to stand. The entire train can carry about 980 people. Automatic doors, charging points, digital route maps, and LED screens are available inside. Safety features include CCTV cameras, emergency buttons, and an intercom system. Tactile tiles and Braille instructions are provided for visually impaired passengers.

Indore completed its metro corridor on time. The 5 km priority section from Gandhi Nagar to Station No. 3 is fully built, with five stations ready. Trial runs are complete, and there’s no work left on this route.
Bhopal, on the other hand, started work earlier but hasn’t finished its stations. The 6.22 km priority stretch from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar is still under construction. While some bridges and tracks are ready, pending station work has delayed the launch.
