India's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, at the post-match conference, said that Steve Smith's wicket was the turning point against Australia. He further added his familiarity with the Chennai pitch is due to his decade-long experience playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL at this venue.
India started their World Cup Campaign with a blockbuster 6-wicket win over Australia at the Chepauk, Chennai on Sunday. With the brilliance of bowlers, India restricted Australia to 199 in 50 overs. Meanwhile, in the run after losing early three wickets, Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97*) weaved a 150+ runs partnership helping the Men In Blue to victory in just 41.2 overs.
Smith's wicket was the turning point
The 34-year-old star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja said,
"I think that was the turning moment, you know when you get a wicket like Steve Smith. From there onwards it was not easy to just come in and rotate the strike for the new batter. So I would say that wicket was the turning point And yeah, it helped me because I knew the conditions in Chennai. I've been playing here for like 10-11 years, so I know the conditions on this ground. I enjoyed it and whatever I contribute to the team I always feel happy."
It was like a Test match bowling wicket
While discussing our bowling strategy at Chepauk, all-rounder Jadeja noted that the pitch was reminiscent of a test match wicket. With this in mind, his approach was to bowl stump-to-stump, a tactic that proved effective in helping him to secure wickets. Jadeja stated, "
"This was my plan that I should bowl at the stumps and luckily the ball to Smith turned a little more. So, my plan was simple. I was thinking that this is a Test match bowling wicket. I shouldn't experiment too much because everything was happening from the wicket. So, I was trying to bowl it stump to stump."
Jadeja becomes third most wicket-taker
The 34-year-old Jadeja picked up three crucial wickets in the clash at Chepauk. 'Sir' Jadeja is now the third bowler in international cricket history to take a century of wickets against Australia. Now, he now has 102 wickets in a total of 40 matches. Former Indian Spinner Harbhajan Singh comes second in this list with 105 wickets in 37 matches. Meanwhile, Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad tops the list with the most 128 wickets against the Aussies in 41 games.
