The grand spectacle of cricket, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, has officially commenced today. The defending champions, England, are pitted against New Zealand in today's match at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The exhilarating cricket tournament will continue until November 19 at the same venue. Similar to the 2019 World Cup, the 2023 World Cup will also incorporate a round-robin format, with the top four teams automatically qualifying for the semi-finals. Before India begins their campaign in the World Cup, it's important to be well-informed about all aspects of the tournament.

India is hosting for the first time

For the first time, India is spearheading the organization of the ODI Cricket World Cup Tournament. In 2011, India had the privilege of co-hosting this prestigious global event with Sri Lanka. Under the stellar leadership of Captain MS Dhoni, Team India triumphantly clinched the ODI World Cup Trophy, marking the end of a 28-year hiatus.

10 Teams will be in Action

The prestigious 13th edition of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup will pit ten teams against each other, including powerhouses like India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Netherlands, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. Each team will battle fiercely for the much coveted world cup title.

India will play first game on this date

India will commence their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8th, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The hosts will engage in their second match on October 11th, facing Afghanistan in Delhi. The most anticipated match of the tournament, India versus Pakistan, is slated for October 14th in Ahmedabad.

This ODI World Cup comprises of a total of 45 league matches and three knockout matches on which there are six day matches while the rest are day-night matches.
