The Indian government has approved a Viability Gap Funding scheme to facilitate offshore wind energy projects. Despite having 54 offshore wind farm projects, none are currently operational.

In the 2024 Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a significant move that could revolutionize India’s renewable energy sector. 

A recent report by the Global Wind Organization (GWO) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has predicted the number of technicians needed to construct, install, operate and maintain wind farms by 2027. 

The Global Offshore Wind Alliance has been initiated by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Denmark, and the Global Wind Energy Council in September 2022.
