Odisha, located on the eastern coast of India, is known for its tropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. However, in recent years, the state has been experiencing prolonged and intense heat waves, causing significant distress to its population.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on April 1, 2023, said that most regions of India are expected to experience higher than usual maximum temperatures between April and June of that year.
