Airplane contrails

As an airplane soars through the sky, the intense heat from its engines releases water vapour which, upon encountering the frigid temperatures at high altitudes, transforms into icy streaks known as contrails.

Like other clouds, long-lived contrails can trap heat in the atmosphere. Scientists have discovered in the last year or two that these contrails can add to the warming of Earth's atmosphere
