Ground Report | New Delhi: Village with zero COVID-19 cases; Vewan, a small town adjacent to the famous Harmukh peak in North Kashmir's Bandipora district, remains an example amid the covid pandemic. The village has managed to avoid the pandemic since its onset in early 2020. The village has reported zero cases so far. Its entire population is being vaccinated against COVID-19.

Village with zero COVID-19 cases

During the last two years, not a single case of Covid-19 infection has been reported from this village. Not only this, but all the people living in the village have also taken both doses of the corona vaccine.

The village is 28 km away from Bandipora town and the first 10 km of the journey is by road to a place called Athwatoo. The remaining 18 km is on foot, up the hills. Even as Bandipora district with the highest number of cases was hit by COVID-19 several times, the village was never affected, while the entire population was exposed to the virus before the villagers came to know about the disease.

According to the Newsagency KNO, to date, not a single case has been reported from the village as most of the illiterate villagers have always supported the administration while fighting the pandemic and kept themselves completely safe from Covid.

Strictly following all guidelines

Locals said that like other states of the country when the corona infection knocked in Kashmir, some people of the village were also infected during that time, but after that, they strictly followed all the guidelines of the administration and the same As a result of this, even though cases of corona infection have been reported in Bandipora in the last two years, but corona infection was not allowed to re-enter this village.

An official said the hamlet became the first village in India where 100 per cent vaccination was accomplished under the J&K model, a 10-point strategy to vaccinate everyone eligible for rapid shots.

The local people said that they know everything about this disease but its effects have never been allowed in this village as they have always been committed and supported the administration in fighting it. He said that there are no other residents around his village which may have helped him stay away from the virus while people were always taking precautions against Covid.

Vaccination

Local resident Shabbir Ahmed told that not a single case of coronavirus infection has been reported in his village. Now the entire population of the village has been vaccinated. He said that the people of his village do not come out of the village without any work.

An elderly woman from the village, Noori Begum, said she had never felt the effects of this deadly disease. "People still go to each other's houses and eat together, but the situation in other areas has worsened due to Covid, as we hear on the radio, this is not the case here," he said.
