Priyadarshini Lingaraj Patil, a 40-year-old NRI woman from Dharwad in Karnataka, tragically took her own life on August 20. According to police officials cited by news agency IANS, she jumped into the Malaprabha river near Saundatti in Belagavi district.
In a suicide note, Priyadarshini blamed Australian authorities and residents of a neighbourhood in Sydney for harassing her family. This note provides insight into the legal custody battle over her children and the overwhelming circumstances that led her to this desperate act.
As per the report, Priyadarshini, who recently arrived in Bengaluru from Australia, made her way to Hubballi and subsequently Belagavi by bus. Priyadarshini detailed in the note addressed to her father that the cause behind her suicide revolves around the custody of her children.
According to the report, she decided to seek medical attention for her son Amartya's health issues. However, his condition deteriorated further due to the alleged side effects of the treatment, prompting her to file a complaint against the hospital.
The authorities alleged that she was incapable of caring for her children, which resulted in the government assuming custody of them. Priyadarshini stated that despite her attempts to regain custody, she was unable to succeed.
'Residents have harassed us'
"I am forced to end my life for the survival of my children and my husband, Lingaraj," she alleged in the suicide note that was found". I am accepting my death for the good of my family. DCJ (Australia's Department of Communities and Justice) has ruined my family from 2021 to the present day. The residents of Verlie Street in Sydney have harassed us."
In the note, Priyadarshini alleged that the family of a police officer had been troubling her and they had poisoned the water supply to her house. Patil had arrived in Bengaluru from Australia and took a bus to Belagavi. The police are investigating the matter.
"Her note read that DCJ (Australia's Department of Communities and Justice) has ruined my family from 2021 to the present day. The residents of Verlie Street in Sydney have been harassing us."
“Anand Goru, Ajitha Goru, Srinidhi Goru, Jabbur and family, Daniel and family, Raymond and his children, Tanya and the whole family, police officer and family… are all responsible for my death. "The note read, 'Someone poisoned the water supplied to my house."
