The family of a 20-year-old girl Kavya Dhakad from MP’s Shivpuri district alleges that she was abducted for ransom while preparing for NEET exams in Kota, Rajasthan. Kavya is studying in Kota and has been missing since March 17. Her phone's last location was in Gurugram.
On Wednesday, the police revealed that the girl wasn't kidnapped, but had conspired with her two friends to extract money from her father for going abroad, mimicking some movie plot.
The team calls it a ploy to extract money. The Times of India reports that the investigation revealed the girl and her boyfriend planning the kidnapping together to acquire ₹30 lakh so they could settle in another country.
The student and one of her friends have not yet been found by the police. The family and administration, who are concerned for the student's safety, appeal for them to contact the nearest police station wherever they may be.
“There has been no kidnapping. As per the available proof, the kidnapping was fake. The student has been staying in Indore," said Kota SP Amruta Duhan.
"SP Duhan stated that the student was accompanying two friends. They planned to study abroad and for that, they needed money which they demanded from their parents," he added. According to SP Duhan, Kavya never studied at the Kota Institute. He added that she was in Indore when the kidnapping saga unfolded.
Who is Kavya Dhakad, who planned her Kidnapping?
Kavya Dhakad, daughter of Raghuveer Dhakad, had allegedly planned her kidnapping to extort money from her father. The girl hails from Bairad of MP's Shivpuri district. As per the media reports, 20-year-old and her boyfriend had been travelling with another friend. The police nabbed another friend, allegedly using his Indore apartment to take the kidnapping photos.
Madhya Pradesh Police have been actively involved in the case, coordinating with Kota authorities. The initial suspicion of abduction has now shifted to a different trajectory, focusing on unravelling the circumstances behind Kavya's fabricated kidnapping.
Earlier, CCTV footage from March 18, barely 3 hours before the alleged kidnapping, showed the student at Durgapura railway station in Jaipur. The footage showed her walking with two boys. Kota police also reached the station to investigate. They are ascertaining the girl's location based on the CCTV footage. Ensuring no stone is left unturned, the Kota SP announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for anyone providing information about the girl.
