The star Indian opener Shubhman Gill is likely to miss India's opening fixture in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Reports coming from the Indian dressing room that Gill, India's most prolific batter in ODIs in recent times, is reportedly down with a high fever and on Friday tested positive for dengue. According to BCCI, the medical team is closely monitoring the star opener’s progress.
BCCI source on the condition of anonymity told PTI,
"He’s under the weather, the medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hoping he gets better soon".
Talking about his participation in the match vs Australia on Sunday, the source said that they are waiting for more updates from the medical team.
Meanwhile, The Physical recovery of dengue patients varies and it normally takes around 7-10 days to be fully recovered. However, the final call on Gill's participation will be taken by the medical team.
India will miss Shubhman Gill's opening
Gill has been the most consistent batter and top scorer for India in ODIs in the year 2023. He has scored 1,230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105 consisting of five centuries and five fifties, with the best of 208. Missing top top-scoring batter in a crucial match can be a big setback for Rohit Sharma and his Team.
Ishan Kishan will open!
In case of the unavailability of Shubhman Gill against Australia, Ishan Kishan could be in line to open up the innings with Skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday. Kishan has a good track record as an opener as he scored 448 runs in 7 innings comprising one double hundred and three fifties at an average of 74.67

Team India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma will play its first match on Sunday, Oct 8 at Chepauk in Chennai. Meanwhile, the ICC Cricket World Cup kicked off on Thursday, Oct 5 with New Zealand thrashing defending champions England by nine wickets in Ahmedabad.
