A 24-year-old man has been arrested in southwest Delhi for allegedly killing his girlfriend Nikki Yadav and hiding her body in a refrigerator after she objected to his marriage to another woman, police said.

Sahil Gahlot killed girlfriend Nikki

The accused, Sahil Gahlot, a resident of Mitraon village in Dwarka, had been in a relationship with the victim, 23-year-old Nikki Yadav, for the past several years, they added.

The Delhi Police Crime Section arrested the man, Sahil Gehlot (24), a recent pharmacy graduate whose family runs a dhaba in Mitraon village.

According to the police, the woman, Nikki Yadav, and the accused started dating in 2018 and lived in Dwarka. Yadav's sister also came to live with them sometimes.

An FIR under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the IPC has been registered at Baba Haridas Nagar Police Station.

Police received complaint

According to the police, information was received on February 10 that a person named Sahil Gehlot had killed his girlfriend and married another girl on the day of the murder.

"A police team was formed and upon checking, no case or complaint about any missing girl was found. The team reached Mitraon village in search of the accused Gehlot, but his mobile phone was found switched off and he was not present at his house. An intensive search was carried out in the village and the nearby area," said Special Police Commissioner, Crime, Ravindra Singh Yadav.

However, Sahil Gahlot was stopped by the police at the Kair village junction.

Gahlot revealed he had killed girlfriend

"On cross-examination, initially, the accused tried to mislead the police. But on sustained cross-examination, he revealed that he had killed his girlfriend, Nikki Yadav, on the intervening night of February 9-10 and kept her corpse in a refrigerator in his dhaba on a vacant lot on the outskirts of the town of Mithraon," Yadav said.

"During the interrogation, the accused initially tried to mislead the police, but later revealed that he had killed his girlfriend on the intervening night of February 9-10 and kept her body in a refrigerator in his dhaba," the officer said.

Ravindra Singh Yadav said that Sahil had not told his family about the relationship and that his father was pressuring him to marry another woman. “Finally, last December, Sahil's engagement and marriage were set for February 9 and 10, respectively. But he didn't inform Nikki,” he added.

Police said the accused's mother is a teacher and her father works at an IGL warehouse.

Disclosing his association with Nikki, the officer said that the accused told investigators that he was preparing for SSC exams at a training centre in Uttam Nagar in January 2018. At the time, the victim, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, it was also being prepared for the medical entrance examination of an institute in Uttam Nagar.

“They both commuted daily to their respective high schools on the same bus and became friends and then fell in love,” he said.

In February 2018, the accused entered DPharma at a university in Greater Noida and his girlfriend also entered the same university in BA (English Hons.). Thereafter, the couple started living together in Greater Noida in a rented house and became very close. They also travelled to various places like Manali, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradoon, he said.
