Meteorologist Pramod Kumar Raikwar said this warm weather will last four more days. Another cold spell is expected from February 22-23, causing temperatures to drop again.

Temperature increase in major cities

Due to the recent rise in temperature, school timings in many cities, including Bhopal, have changed. Schools that started at 9 AM are now opening at 7:30 AM to adjust to the climate.

The Meteorological Department reported a 2 to 3 degree temperature rise in many state cities. Monday’s recorded temperatures were:

City Temperature (°C)
Narmadapuram 33.6 (Highest)
Mandla 33.5
Khandwa 33.1
Seoni 33.0
Bhopal 31.8
Ujjain 31.5
Indore 30.8
Jabalpur 30.4
Gwalior 29.6

Similarly, many other cities recorded temperatures above 32°C. Night temperatures have risen, staying above 12°C in most cities.

Meteorologists predict the current weather pattern will persist until February 22. A western disturbance is expected from February 19, leading to a slight temperature drop from February 22-23. No rainfall forecast.

Temperature trends over 10 years in February

Data from the past 10 years shows that February in Madhya Pradesh typically brings cold nights and warm days, sometimes with rain. The trend is expected to continue this year.

In Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain, daytime temperatures are expected to stay above 30°C, while nighttime temperatures will range between 10 to 14°C. Gwalior experiences the coldest nights, with temperatures dropping to 6.1°C last year and below 5°C in previous years.

Madhya Pradesh’s winter was harsh in November and December, breaking records. Bhopal broke a 36-year-old temperature record in November. Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Gwalior also experienced colder-than-normal conditions, with mercury levels dropping 7 degrees below average.

December was colder than January, with a nine-day prolonged cold wave. In Bhopal, December’s cold set a 58-year record. Due to the extreme cold, school timings were adjusted in several districts, and Bhopal’s Van Vihar National Park installed heaters to protect animals.

January began with intense cold for the first 10 to 15 days, but temperatures increased. Unlike previous years, there was no severe cold due to weak western disturbances, leading to less rainfall and no hailstorms.

Madhya Pradesh is experiencing rising temperatures, but another cold wave is expected later in February. Residents should prepare for temperature fluctuations, as past data shows February brings unpredictable weather with cold nights and warm days. Authorities are adjusting school timings to cope with the changing conditions, and citizens should stay updated with weather forecasts.
