The Madhya Pradesh government has launched the Jal Darpan portal to monitor rural tap water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The Public Health Engineering Department introduced the portal on Wednesday. Public Health Engineering Minister Sampatiya Uike launched the platform. A call center has also been set up to take complaints and feedback from the public.
This portal makes Madhya Pradesh the first state in India to collect feedback and track data for the Jal Jeevan Mission using a dedicated system. The goal is to monitor ongoing tap water schemes and restart those that are no longer working.
Minister Sampatiya Uike said the Jal Jeevan Mission is one of the top priorities for the state government. The scheme is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to provide clean drinking water to all rural households. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the state is working hard to complete every single-village tap water project on time. The government aims to deliver quality service and good governance through this mission.
The Jal Darpan portal will help track the progress of all tap water supply projects in real time. It will also make it easier to solve complaints by acting on the feedback provided by residents. Officials will be able to detect service quality issues and take quick action to fix them.
Out of a total of 111.77 lakh rural households in Madhya Pradesh, 77.12 lakh now have access to tap water through the Jal Jeevan Mission. This covers about 69 percent of rural families in the state. In the financial year 2024–25, the government provided 8 lakh new tap connections. The highest number of new connections, 19 lakh, was recorded in 2020–21.
Burhanpur district in Madhya Pradesh was the first in India to be declared a “Har Ghar Jal” district. Recently, Niwari district, which borders Uttar Pradesh, joined the list. All rural homes in Niwari now have functional household tap connections.
With the Jal Darpan portal and a new call center in place, the Madhya Pradesh government aims to strengthen its water delivery system. The platform is expected to improve accountability, speed up responses to issues, and ensure clean water reaches every rural household.
