On May 10, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that 12 cities across the country recorded above-normal maximum temperatures. Notably, Agartala saw the highest jump, with its maximum temperature reaching 39°C, which was 6°C higher than normal.
Kohima recorded the highest increase in minimum temperature, jumping 5°C to 19°C. These temperature spikes indicate an intensifying heatwave across multiple regions.

The IMD has also forecast heatwave conditions for several areas over the next few days. Western Uttar Pradesh is expected to experience heatwaves on May 15 and 16, while Eastern Uttar Pradesh will face similar conditions from May 14 to 16.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will see heatwave conditions on May 11, and Gangetic West Bengal will face heatwave conditions from May 11 to 14. Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha are also likely to experience heatwaves between May 11 and 14. The IMD advises people in these areas to take necessary precautions against the extreme heat.
Severe heatwave conditions are set to affect 29 mandals across Andhra Pradesh on Monday, with temperatures expected to range between 42°C and 43.5°C, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA). In addition, moderate heatwave conditions are forecast for 41 more mandals, impacting a total of 70 mandals across various districts.
