In a tragic incident on Sunday, a young woman named Sakshi Ahuja from Delhi's Preet Vihar lost her life after being electrocuted while trying to cross a flooded street. Ahuja had arrived at the New Delhi railway station with her sister and her three children to catch the Bhopal Shatabdi train.
Due to waterlogging outside the station, she clung to a power pole for support and was electrocuted when she came into contact with it. The incident occurred around 5:30 am and despite the immediate efforts of those nearby to help her, Ahuja was unable to save herself from it.
The Delhi Police identified the victim and confirmed the circumstances of the incident, citing the presence of exposed wires on the pole.
Onlookers immediately rushed her to LHMC (Lady Hardinge Medical College) hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead. Following a complaint filed by Ahuja's sister, Madhvi Chopra, alleging negligence by the authorities, a case was registered.
Lokesh Kumar Chopra, Ahuja's father, also blamed the proper authority for negligence and expressed his grief over the incident. The images revealed exposed electrical wires at the base of the pole, which are suspected to be the cause of the tragic accident.
