A total of 1,532 suicides committed by personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Assam Rifles (AR), and the National Security Guard (NSG) have been reported from 2011 to 2023.
The government stated in a written reply that 53,336 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Assam Rifles personnel have quit their jobs on account of either voluntary retirement or resignation during the last five years.

A dedicated Task Force has been established to identify pertinent risk factors and at-risk groups, aiming to propose effective remedial measures for the prevention of suicides and fratricides within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles (AR).
Currently, the awaited report from the Task Force is anticipated to provide crucial insights and recommendations in addressing these critical issues.
Although the government says most of the suicides were due to domestic issues or land disputes, the media and ex-military officers have been weakened by the worrisome situation, and senior officials have been rude, and have taken leave despite the real need. Reasons such as denial.

The Indian Army's think tank United Service Institution of India (USI) recently published a report. It said more than half of the Indian Army personnel were under "extreme pressure" and that the number of suicides in the armed forces was on the rise. The think tank, however, later deleted its report.
According to a media report, the publication of this report prepared by US Senior Research Fellow Colonel AK Moore had created a storm in India's defence sector. Col. said in his report that "Indian Army personnel's prolonged exposure to counter-terrorism/counter-extremism is one of the factors that put pressure on them."
