On Wednesday, the local civic authority of Indore disclosed plans to transform India's cleanest city into a solar city. The specialists have a goal of 300 MW of electricity generation by installing rooftop solar panels over three years.
The initiative was announced by Mr. Pushyamitra Bhargava, Indore's mayor, at a workshop on turning Indore into a solar city. The standards and procedures for approving buildings will be modified. Indore citizens will receive subsidies under government programmes for constructing solar power plants. Solar power plants will be installed on the roofs of government buildings as part of the first phase.
According to a representative of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), the city's solar power plants currently produce about 40 MW of electricity annually. That amount is expected to rise to 300 MW in the following three years. According to approximate calculations, the city's total roof surface is 125 lakh square meters, of which 20% can be utilized to develop solar power plants. There have been suggestions, and we are offering a property tax credit for building solar plants.

According to Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, the IMC includes a budget of Rs 50 crore in 2023–24 to encourage the use of renewable energy. He added that we had set a goal to install solar plants in at least 200 public parks and all IMC-owned buildings. IMC commissioner Harshika Singh also spoke to the audience on this occasion and emphasized the importance of developing renewable energy.
Divyank Singh, CEO of Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL), stated that 300 megawatts of solar plant capacity would be needed to completely meet Indore's peak electricity demand during the summer.
In addition to promoting energy-efficient products, reducing electricity consumption, lowering carbon footprints, and promoting renewable energy for transportation, commercial, and industrial use. IMC requested plans from subject experts and consumers while presenting the roadmap on Wednesday. The CEO, Mr. Divyank, noted that crucial suggestions and appropriate actions would be included in a vision document for the state government's approval to help Indore become a Solar City. The audience members also suggested cutting 18% GST on solar panels, offering personalized loans for solar plant setup, and giving carbon credits will be beneficial to achieve the goal.
